Breel Embolo was delighted to score on his FC Schalke 04 debut in the 4-1 defeat of Villingen in the DFB Pokal on Saturday.
The 19-year-old, who joined the club from Basel for 12 million Euros, netted his side’s second goal, in the 18th minute after Dennis Aogo had opened the scoring with just 10 minutes played.
Johannes Geis (75) and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (86) were also on target, with Mario Ketterer netting a consolation in injury time at the end of the tie.
Speaking to the club’s website after the game, Embolo said: “We wanted to fill up on some self-confidence from this game and we’ve done that.
“Of course we know we’ve still got a lot of work to do, but that’s only normal.
“It was a decent enough start and we’re working hard, wanting to take things step by step.
“It was a great experience for me personally to play my first game for Schalke and now we’ve got to take the next step against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. We’ve got a very ambitious team.”
Schalke take on Frankfurt in their first game of the new Bundesliga season at the Commerzbank-Arena next Saturday.
