Mourinho tells Pogba to forget world-record fee

Jose Mourinho wants Paul Pogba to forget his world-record transfer fee in order to flourish at Manchester United.

The Red Devils made Pogba the most expensive footballer in history when paying an initial £89million to re-sign the midfielder from Juventus this summer.

However, the 23-year-old is yet to find his best form at Old Trafford, amid scrutiny over whether the France international is being used in his best position.

“The world-record player is always a question, but I want Paul to forget that,” said United boss Mourinho.

“He played in the Euro 2016 final, went on holiday, then had no pre-season. It is normal after the first game he has a little decrease.

“I am full of trust because I know he is a good guy with a lot of ambition, so the form will come naturally.”

Fellow midfielder Ander Herrera, meanwile, insists Mourinho is the “perfect” manager for the club and is confident the Portuguese will get the best out of Pogba.

United have lost their last two games, the Manchester derby against City and the Europa League trip to Feyenoord, while a defeat at Watford on Sunday would mark the side’s worst run of results since December, which saw supporters call for the head of Louis van Gaal.

But Herrera said: “Players like Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic came partly because this is a massive club – but also because Mourinho is here.

“His way of thinking is what this club wants.

“If you are an honest player, he is going to be an honest manager with you.”
