Ajax and Feyenoord won as Heracles and Twente, and Sparta Rotterdam and AZ both drew their Eredivisie matches on Sunday afternoon.

Kevin Conboy opened the scoring for a struggling Utrecht side, in their 3-2 loss at the Amsterdam ArenA, in the 27th minute but an own-goal from Ramon Leeuwin on 47 minutes got Ajax back into the tie before a 79th-minute penalty from Lasse Schone edged the hosts into the lead.

And while Hakim Ziyech looked to have put the result beyond doubt with his 87th-minute goal, Mark van der Maarel set up a tense final few minutes with his 90th-minute effort.

Elsewhere, Feyenoord defeated Willem II 2-0 with goals from Nicolai Jorgensen on 16 minutes and Renato Tapia with 76 minutes played.

The results see Feyenoord retain their place at the top of the standings, on 24 points from eight games, with Ajax in second on 19 points.

Utrecht are down in 14th with just six points with Willem II a further two places further down the table, but also on six points.

Mateusz Klich, meanwhile, got Heracles up and running in their clash with Twente, with his converted penalty on 40 minutes, but a Samuel Armenteros goal just two minutes later meant the teams had to share a point each as the tie ended 1-1.

Heracles are in 13th with seven points with Twente in seventh, on 13 points from their eight matches played.

And in the final game of the day, Sparta Rotterdam and AZ played to a 1-1 draw where Guus Til opened the scoring on six minutes, only for Michel Breuer to fire home a 39th-minute equaliser.

Rotterdam ended the weekend in eighth with 11 points as AZ moved onto 15 points but remained in fifth spot.

Sunday's Eredivisie results:

Ajax 3-2 Utrecht
