Luis Suarez has confirmed that he is on the verge of penning a new long-term contract at Barcelona.

Suarez has netted a stunning 62 goals in 70 La Liga appearances since moving to the Nou Camp in a £75million deal from Liverpool two years ago.

The Uruguayan’s current Barcelona deal runs until the summer of 2019, but he is close to joining team-mates Neymar and Javier Mascherano in committing his long-term future to the club.

“They [the club and Suarez’s representatives] are handling the renewal,” Suarez told Sport 890.

“It’s really advanced and I can say it’s on the right path.

“Both sides are in agreement and we’re talking about a long deal.”
