Big wins for Hoffenheim and Darmstadt

Highlights – FC Augsburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim cruised to a comfortable win over 10-man Bayer 04 Leverkusen in Saturday’s Bundesliga action, while SV Darmstadt 98 had too much firepower for VfL Wolfsburg.

SV Darmstadt 98 heaped further pressure on fellow stragglers VfL Wolfsburg after recording a 3-1 victory at Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolves were facing an uphill battle from as early as the 23rd minute, with Jeffrey Bruma receiving his marching orders after hacking down László Kleinheisler on the edge of the box. And their misery was compounded shortly thereafter as Änis Ben-Hatira slotted the ball into the top-right corner from the resulting free-kick.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, it was the visitors who would find the next breakthrough, Mario Gomez heading home from Ricardo Rodríguez’s cross to give his side a way back into the contest.

However, their hopes were dashed when Kleinheisler got on the scoresheet in the 68th minute, before Sandro Sirigu added a third in the 76th minute to double Darmstadt’s advantage.

At BayArena, meanwhile, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim were rarely troubled as they clinched a 3-0 win against 10-man Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

It was a bitter homecoming for striker Kevin Volland, who was red-carded after just six minutes of play, and Leverkusen never managed to recover from that early setback.

Kerem Demirbay opened the scoring on 15 minutes, before Sandro Wagner (49′) and Steven Zuber (60′) got in on the act after the half-time break.

Hertha Berlin stretched their unbeaten run to four games after recording a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Köln at Olympiastadion, Vedad Ibisevic (13′) and Niklas Stark (74′) scoring either side of Anthony Modeste’s 65th-minute equaliser.

Borussia Dortmund were pushed all the way to the wire as they scored a dramatic equaliser in injury time to secure a 3-3 draw with FC Ingolstadt 04 at Audi Sportpark.

Goals from Almog Cohen (6′) and Darío Lezcano (24′) put the hosts firmly in control, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired home in the 59th minute to reduce the deficit.

Ingolstadt hit back straight from the restart, though, as Lezcano notched his second of the game.

However, Dortmund responded well after conceding the third, with Adrián Ramos slotting home in the 69th minute, before Christian Pulisic netted in the first minute of injury time to secure a dramatic draw.

SC Freiburg, meanwhile, lifted themselves into the top half of the Bundesliga standings after edging FC Augsburg 2-1 at MAGE SOLAR Stadion.

Goals from Maximilian Philipp (66′) and Nils Petersen (78′) gave the hosts a two-goal cushion, with Halil Altintop’s 84th-minute goal proving nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.
