Sparta Rotterdam picked up a vital three points in their 3-1 victory over Heerenveen at Sparta-Stadion Het Kasteel on Friday night.
Jeremiah St Juste opened the scoring for the away side after just nine minutes of their Eredivisie clash.
But two quick-fire first-half goals, from Stijn Spierings on 15 minutes and Zakaria El Azzouzi four minutes later, turned the tie on its head in front of an ecstatic home support.
Craig Goodwin then made sure of the result with his goal on 69 minutes.
Rotterdam, who have been on a good run of late, with a 3-1 win over PSV in a cup match ahead of a 2-2 draw with Heracles, jumped up from ninth to seventh with 16 points with this win.
Heerenveen, who last lost against NEC in August, missed out on the chance to move up one place to third, and remain on 22 points.
