Jose Mourinho thinks his half-time team talk gave Manchester United the confidence they needed to play “beautiful, attacking football” in the second half of their EFL Cup victory over West Ham.The two sides went in level at the break after Ashley Fletcher equalised for the Hammers after Zlatan Ibrahimovic had given the hosts a lead with a delightful finish. Two goals from Anthony Martial and another from Ibrahimovic settled the match after the restart, and Mourinho has revealed he told his players to forget about Fletcher’s equaliser.
“The performance is something we are used to, we are playing very well at home. Today was more of the same,” Mourinho said.
“After the West Ham goal, we had 10 minutes where we felt it deeply. West Ham’s first shot, they equalise.
“But in the second half, we got the confidence to play and play beautiful, attacking football.
“I told them at half-time it is not possible to play so well and because of a goal stop to play so well.
“I told them to forget about the undeserved goal, we are playing so well, we have to keep the confidence and lets go on with it.”Goals plus performance means the real happiness.”
