The Eredivisie may be undertaking a revamp in the near future, according to recent reports in Dutch media claiming the new plans will bring 'stronger opposition'.
Voetbal international reported that the KNVB is set to copy the style of the Belgian Pro League, which has been successful to date producing a host of promising talent around Europe and for the national team.
With the recent decline in quality amongst the Netherlands senior team, the league committee has proposed plans, straight after introducing the new Landelijke divisie – the league between professional and amateur football in country.
The Belgian league system currently consists of 16 teams and at the end of the season the top six clubs qualify for a Championship play-off.
While places seven to 15 qualify for Europa League play-off system and the bottom side gets relegated to the second tier.
