Raul Garcia bagged both goals for Athletic Bilbao as they edged out Racing Santander 2-1 at El Sardinero in Thursday's Copa del Rey action.

Garcia broke the deadlock with only 11 minutes gone, before Javier Cobo equalised 12 minutes later, but the Spanish midfielder scored again on 28 minutes, which proved to be the winner for Los Leones.

Elsewhere, Alaves cruised to a 2-0 victory over Segunda Division side Tarragona at Nou Estadi de Tarragona.

A brace from Toquero (15', 52') set up the La Liga outfit for a first-leg win, with Christian Santos (63') putting them in a commanding position for the home fixture.

Meanwhile, Las Palmas let slip a two-goal lead as they played out to a 2-2 draw with Huesca at Estadio El Alcoraz.

Asdrubal gave the top-flight visitors an 11th-minute lead from the penalty spot and Hernan made it 2-0 eight minutes into the second half, but Juanjo Camacho pulled one back on 63 minutes before Aguilera restored parity with 19 minutes left to keep the second-tier club alive in the competition.

Earlier in the evening, Juanmi's double helped Real Sociedad beat Real Valladolid 3-1 at Estadio Jose Zorrilla.

La Real got off to a flying start when Inigo Martinez fired them in front after just seven minutes, but they were pegged back by Jaime Mata's 14th-minute spot-kick.

However, Juanmi (62', 74') struck twice in the space of 12 second-half minutes to secure the win.
