Schubert wary of Dortmund threat

Guardiola tells Sane he wants ‘happy’ players at Man City

Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Andre Schubert is hoping to turn his team’s disastrous league-form around, when they host Borussia Dortmund.

Gladbach have collected just 13 points from a possible 36 this season. As such, Schubert’s charges occupy 13th position in the league standings and are winless in their last seven Bundesliga matches.

“We’re not happy with our league position, and it’s getting critical,” he told the club’s website.

“In the last few weeks we’ve played well in parts, but we’ve not been rewarded enough for that and we’ve not picked up enough points.

“The boys have always put in good performances and do not doubt themselves.”

The 45-year-old mentor also highlighted the attacking threat that Thomas Tuchel’s side pose, in addition to confirming the imminent return of forward Josep Drmic.

“Dortmund have already scored 27 goals this season, which shows just how dangerous they are as a team,” he added. “We have to be aware that they will press high up the pitch and try to attack us early.

“It’s important that we build our play up slowly and always keep an eye out for the possibility of playing a long ball. Also, we’ll have to defend really well and try to counter quickly after winning the ball back in order to get it into their half as quickly as possible.

“Josip has been training with the team for two weeks now and he’s been looking good. This week, he has been looking to make challenges.

“He is starting to get used to the stress of playing again and is gradually starting to trust his body. He could even make an appearance soon if he shows me that he is fully fit to play,” Schubert concluded.
