Roda JC’s dreadful first half of the Eredivisie season continued as they were beaten 2-0 by Groningen at the Euroborg Stadium on Friday night.
The win lifts the home side up to ninth in the league standings and within striking distance of the Europa League qualification places, just two points behind Utrecht in seventh.
Groningen were on top of the match from start to finish and were well worth the lead when Mimoun Mahi opened the scoring in just the 10th minute.
Despite their clear dominance, they were unable to add to the scoresheet in the first half.
After the break they continued to pressure, while Roda began to threaten on the counter attack.
The home side were eventually able to double their lead and make sure of the win when Alexander Sorloth hit the back of the net in the 71st minute.
