Barcelona have confirmed that contract talks are under way with Lionel Messi, while Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez is close to penning a new contract.
Messi has just over 18 months remaining on his current deal, and recently entered negotiations over a contract extension, while Suarez is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Commenting on Suarez's new deal, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: "It's done, just a few small details need to be sorted and we'll announce it in the next few days or weeks.
"We want Luis Suarez to stay at the club for many more years. For us, he is an important character."
In an interview with Uruguayan radio station Cadena Celeste, Bartomeu added: "It will be a great Christmas present, not necessarily for Luis as he already knows he's going to continue here, but for football fans.
"He forms part of this spectacular trident we have, which helps the entire team function."
Meanwhile, doubts were recently raised over Messi's willingness to commit his future to the Spanish giants, but any lingering fears have now been seemingly put to bed.
Barca manager Luis Enrique has expressed his relief at the news of Messi coming to the negotiation table.
"It makes me more relaxed," Enrique said.
