Lazovic strike downs La Viola

‘It’s horrible’ – Dele Alli on VAR drama after ‘unbelievable’ UCL win

Darko Lazovic scored the only goal of the game as Genoa kept up their impressive home record with a 1-0 win over Fiorentina at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday.

The Serbian winger struck in the closing stages of the first half to register his first goal of the season for the Rossoblu, who made it seven matches without defeat on home soil in Serie A.

Ivan Juric's side moved within three points of seventh-placed La Viola in 10th spot, with the visitors seeing a two-match winning streak come to an end in the league.

The hosts almost got off to a flying start when Luca Rigoni fired narrowly wide of the left post in the first minute, while they went even closer midway through the first half as Diego Laxalt hit the crossbar with a header.

But Genoa eventually broke the deadlock on 37 minutes when Lazovic got on the end of compatriot Nicola Ninkovic's cross to beat Ciprian Tatarusanu from six yards out.

The Florence outfit looked to respond after the break, although the closest they came was in the 59th minute with a long-range shot from Mauro Zarate that struck the bar and Matias Vecino failed to convert on the rebound.

The Rossoblu had chances to extend their lead as the second half wore on but Miguel Veloso failed to hit the target, while Olivier Ntcham drew a fine save out of Tatarusanu at the death.
