I don’t feel sad, I feel happy – Torres on retirement

Pedro and Eden Hazard did the business for in-form Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they eased to a 3-0 Boxing Day win over Bournemouth.

  • Chelsea 3 Bournemouth 0
  • Pedro finds the top corner
  • Hazard earns and buries penalty
  • Pedro adds late third

Match Summary

The Blues took a one-goal lead in at halftime thanks to a delightful effort from Pedro in a game of many half-chances for both sides.

Eden Hazard had been fantastic for the home side throughout, dribbling through the Cherries with ease, testing Artur Boruc with a rabona shot, and early in the second half earning and tucking away the penalty that sealed all three points for the league leaders.

The match was just about over in the final seconds when Chelsea counterattacked and Pedro's eyes lit up for his second of the night. The winger, running at the back-tracking defenders, twisted and turned to work the shot, which struck both defenders on its way to goal, wrongfooting Boruc enough to roll over the line.

Full Report

There was good football on display from both teams in the first half, with plenty of slick passing on show. Eden Hazard, Adam Smith, and Pedro all had close shaves with the goal in the opening exchanges.

A period of Chelsea pressure was capped off with a goal in the 23rd minute courtesy of Pedro. The Blues played a corner short, and when it popped up to the Spaniard he took one touch to set it up on the turn before dinking a delicious, left-footed effort into the top left corner.

Thibaut Courtois was called on to make a save soon afterwards and deny Jack Wilshere, before Hazard thrilled the crowd with a spectacular rabona effort on goal that Artur Boruc was able to tap away from the top corner.

The 36th minute saw Cesc Fabregas send a free kick towards the top left corner that just didn't have enough dip and skimmed the roof of the net on it's way over.

The second half had barely gotten underway when Hazard earned the chance to double Chelsea's lead with some quick feet in the Bournemouth box drawing a foul from Simon Francis. The Belgian stepped up himself to slot it home.

Hazard almost had another soon afterwards in the 54th minute as he skipped into the box into his right foot and looked for the far corner, with his curled effort narrowly evading Pedro on the right on it's way out for a goal kick.

The 74th minute saw Courtois deny the Cherries a goal back after Jack Wilshere opened up the Blues defence with a great pass to find Benik Afobe, but the big Belgian came off his line to make the block.

The Blues added their third when the game looked dead and buried. Pedro led a counterattack and had Hazard on his left, but the Spaniard went it alone, working the shot on his right foot and firing against Cook and Arter before rolling past a wrong-footed Boruc in goal.
