Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has landed a drink-driving charge after being pulled over by police in the city centre on Christmas Eve.
Merseyside Police confirmed that the Brazil star will make a court appearance on the final day of the year – just a few hours before the Reds take on Premier League leaders Chelsea at Anfield.
Firmino has played an important role for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, with his five goals and three assists from 16 top-flight games keeping them in touch with the front-runners going into the new year.
Klopp will be hoping that the court date does not prove to be a distraction for the 25-year-old, as the Reds host Stoke on Tuesday looking to close the gap to the Blues at the top of the league table.
A police spokesperson said on Boxing Day: "Merseyside Police has charged a 25-year-old man with drink driving after his car was stopped in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Saturday, December 24, 2016.
"Roberto Firmino, from Liverpool, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court on January 31."
