Former FC Bayern München coach Omar Hitzfield is confident that forward Thomas Muller will improve in the second half of the campaign, after recently being consigned to the substitutes bench.
The Germany international suffered an eleven-game streak in the league without finding the back of the net and was subsequently dropped by Carlo Ancelotti for the Bavarian giants' comprehensive 3-0 victory over RB Leipzig before the festive break.
However, Hitzfield says if anything, Muller will come back stronger in the new year after being relegated to the bench.
"I don't think so," Hitzfeld told Bild am Sonntag, when asked whether the decision to bench Muller would have a negative impact on the player and the team.
"He's a true professional and knows himself that in the whole first half of the season he hasn't really been in form.
"Thomas will take that as an incentive and will be successful again next year," he concluded.
Since breaking into the Bayern first team, Muller has amassed 375 appearances, netting 156 goals and providing 124 assists.
