Guardiola refuses to criticise City players

Pep Guardiola insists he couldn’t fault his Manchester City side, despite their failure to take a stranglehold on a Champions League spot.

City could only register a goalless draw in the Manchester derby, despite dominating the second half against United and boasting a man advantage after Marouane Fellaini’s late red card.

Sergio Aguero hit the post early on, while Gabriel Jesus saw a goal ruled out for offside in the dying stages.

But despite City’s lead over fifth placed United remaining a meagre one point, boss Guardiola was not unhappy with the performance of his side.

“We tried and played like wanted to," he told Sky Sports.

"We conceded few chances knowing they are so dangerous on the counter with attacking runs behind.

"We controlled that and created enough chances to win, they have two.

"They are 24 games without defeat so it's not easy to play against United but we did absolutely everything to win. When that happens you can have no regrets."
