World Cup U-20 wrap: Uruguay beat Japan, Zambia secure great comeback

Wednesday’s action at the FIFA U-20 World Cup saw Uruguay beat Japan 2-0 while Zambia came back from behind to defeat Iran.

Group D: Uruguay 2-0 Japan

Nicolas Schiappacasse gave the South Americans took lead in the first half before Mathias Olivera doubled the lead in the 92nd minute and secured the win for Uruguay. The victory puts them at the top of Group D and secures them a place in the Round of 16.

Group D: Italy 2-0 South Africa

In the other Group D match, Italy were too good for South Africa in Suwon. Midfielder Riccardo Orsolini would gave the Italians the edge from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute, while Andrea Favilli scored the second in the opening exchanges of the second half to earn 2-0 win.

Group C: Zambia 4-2 Iran

Meanwhile, Zambia came back from two goals down to defeat Iran 4-2 at the Jeju World Cup Stadium. The Zambians seemed down and out after Iranian striker Reza Shekari scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

But a second half blitz saw Zambia score four goals in 17 minutes, with Emmanuel Banda creating one and scoring another. The win sees the African side top Group C.

Group C: Costa Rica 1-1 Portugal

Finally, Costa Rica earned a 1-1 draw against ten-man Portugal. The European’s opened the scoring in the first half before Jimmy Marin earned the equaliser early in the second half.
