Newcastle have snapped up Chelsea winger Christian Atsu as their first off-season signing as they aim to stay in the Premier League next season.

The Magpies claimed the Championship title this term to secure their return to the top flight, and were helped by the performances of Atsu, who spent the campaign on loan from the Blues.

The 25-year-old winger made 32 appearances for Rafael Benitez's side, scoring five goals and assisting in three as they finished the campaign one point clear of Brighton.

Benitez said, according to the Daily Mail: "We are happy to sign a good player. He's shown us that he's a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve.

"Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future."
