The final round of group fixtures of the FIFA U-20 World Cup saw the Round of 16 finally take shape.
Honduras beat Asian hopefuls Vietnam 2-0, with Jorge Daniel Alvarez scoring the second in the 93rd minute. However, this was not enough to see the Central American’s advance to the next round, while Vietnam were also eliminated.
USA and Saudi Arabia’s 1-1 draw at Daejeon World Cup Stadium was enough to see both teams advance to the first knockout stage. USA will face New Zealand, while the Saudi’s face Uruguay.
Meanwhile, Senegal’s crucial goalless draw was enough to see them through to the Round of 16 on goal difference, while Ecuador were knocked out.
Finally New Zealand and France advance despite the European’s 2-0 win in Daejeon.
Tournament hosts South Korea will face European giants Protugal in their knockout clash, while fellow Asian hopefuls Japan meet Venezuela.
