Cologne deny Chinese offer made for Modeste

Cologne have denied that an unnamed team from China have made an offer for star striker, Anthony Modeste, and appear hopeful of retaining him until 2021.

Modeste have been in prolific form for the Billy Goats since arriving at the Bundesliga club in 2015/16. In his first season he managed 18 goals in 36 appearances, before firing in 27 strikes in 35 in 2016/17.

As such, the 29-year-old is a hot commodity and it seems sides in the cash rich Chinese Super League are eager to snap him up. In March, he was reportedly the subject of a €50 million offer from Tianjin Quanjian, which was turned down.

Nonetheless, Cologne are seemingly determined to keep the forward in North Rhine-Westphalia until his contract ends in 2021, although they have admitted that no bid has been made for the Cannes-born star.

Jorg Schmadtke, managing director of the team, told Kicker, "There is no official offer." Hanging on to Modeste appears to be a priority as he scored 25 of the club's 51 league goals last season.
