A merciless Argentina thrashed hosts Singapore 6-0 in their international friendly clash at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
The visitors started the game strongly, creating a few chances in the first 20 minutes, and they finally broke through in the 25th minute when Federico Julian Fazio found the back of the net. Alejandro Gomez provided the corner for Fazio to volley home.
It was 2-0 only six minutes later as the Argentines took control of the encounter. After another corner, Paulo Dybala got the ball and made his way to the byline before squareing it for Joaquin Correa to tap past a helpless Hassan Sunny.
Argentina took their two-goal advantage into the break and came close to scoring their third two minutes into the second half. Manuel Lanzini did well to create space for himself to shoot from 12 yards out, but he directed his low effort just wide.
On the hour mark the South American giants were cruising as they netted their third. Gomez produced a moment of inspiration as he drilled a 25-yard shot into the back of the net with his left foot.
Substitute Leandro Paredes came agonisingly close to joining the goal-scoring festivities but he could only rattle the post from the edge of the box.
However, the fourth goal arrived in the 74th minute for Paredes. The midfielder took advantage of a poor goal-kick from Izwan Mahbud and placed his shot into the far corner of the goal from 18 yards out.
In the 90th minute Argentina emphasised their dominance with a fifth goal. Lucas Alario hammered the ball home on the bounce after Angel Di Maria headed it into his path.
The goal-fest was concluded in stoppage time as Di Maria back-heeled the ball into the goal after Fernandez set it up for him with a square pass.
