Montpellier are in mourning following the announcement that the club's long-standing president, Louis Nicollin, passed away on Thursday.

Loulou, as he was known, had held sway at Stade de la Mosson since 1974. He oversaw the club’s maiden Ligue 1 title success in 2011/12.

Widespread reports claim that Nicollin suffered a heart attack at a restaurant while celebrating his 74th birthday.

"It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our president Louis Nicollin on Thursday 29 June," the club revealed on Twitter.

The French entrepreneur will be remembered for dyeing his hair orange and blue when Montpellier were crowned domestic champions five years ago.
