Matavz makes Eredivisie return

F1 British Grand Prix – Valtteri Bottas pole position lap

Vitesse Arnhem has announced the signing of FC Augsburg striker Tim Matavz for an undisclosed fee, as a direct replacement for last season’s top scorer Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Matavz, 28, signed a three-year contract with Vitesse and returns for a second spell in the Dutch top-flight after leaving PSV for Fuggerstädter in 2014.

The Slovenia international enjoyed a prolific spell in the Netherlands with 90 goals in 203 games for Groningen and Boeren respectively before his unsuccessful stint in Germany.

After only three goals in 27 games for the Bundesliga outfit after a €4 million transfer, the towering forward spent the last two seasons on loan, first with Genoa in the Serie A and last season in the German second-tier with Nurnberg.

Matavz said that he's delighted to return to the league he first joined as an 18-year-old.

"My greatest achievements I had while I lived in the Netherlands. That's why I'm glad I again get the chance to get show my ability here," he told the club's website.
