Vallejo ready to work hard in Pepe’s Madrid shirt

Data preview: Manchester City v Tottenham – after 4-3 thriller in Champions League

Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo is determined to prove himself at the club after he was given Pepe's number three shirt ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Following Pepe's exit at the end of last season after 10 years at the club, Los Merengues have opted to give 20-year-old Vallejo the number three shirt.

Vallejo spent last season out on loan at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt, where he made 25 league appearances, scoring one goal and assisting another.

"Thank you very much to the president and the club, who have shown great confidence in me when they signed me two years ago," Vallejo said according to Four Four Two.

"Since then I have wanted to repay that trust. I still have a long way to go.

"With humility, work, effort and sacrifice I hope to be here for many years, because this is the best club in the world.

"I am very happy to take the responsibility [of playing for Madrid]. I will give everything for this badge and this shirt. Hala Madrid."
