Real Betis have confirmed that both Real Madrid Barcelona have made official enquiries into highly-rated young midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The 20-year old was one of the stars of the recent Under 21 European Championships, delivering a number of terrific performances and triggering rumours that it will not be a one-horse race for his signature.

Despite breaking the news of the two La Liga rivals' interest in the player, Beticos president Angel Haro pointed out that Ceballos' departure should not be considered a fait accompli.

"For the moment, we are planning towards the new season that he will be our player," the president told reporters in a press conference on Thursday. "We have had calls from both Real Madrid and Barcelona to express their interest in Dani.

"If he tells us that he doesn't want to stay at Betis then we will work on that.

"We understand that he will get back to us soon as we don't think he'll need so much time to make a decision," he added.

"He will have some days of holiday and will make a decision and at the moment his future does not depend on us.”

Ceballos has a €15m release clause in his contract but his current employers could be expected a significantly higher amount if his two wealthy suitors are equally committed in their pursuits for his signature.
