Lulic: Lazio awaiting Lucas with ‘open arms’

Senad Lulic cannot wait for the arrival of Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, a player whose skill and experience will add a great deal of value to the Lazio squad.

The 30-year old Brazi international is expected to arrive at Stadio Olimpico on Sunday with his medical scheduled for Monday. If all goes according to plan, the €5.5m transfer should be officially announced soon after.

Speaking to Mediaset Premium ahead of his new teammate's arrival, midfielder Lulic expressed his delight at the signing of a player he believes will play an important part in the Rome club's revival.

“Lucas Leiva is a great player with a lot of experience,” said Lulic.

“We have so many young players here that we need someone like him. We await him with open arms and hope he arrives soon.

“We want to challenge for the top places, the other sides have reinforced and we will try to do our best," the Bosnia-Herzegovina international continued.

"It will be difficult to repeat last term, as we know what awaits us, but we’re working well and hope to achieve our targets.

“There are regrets, for example, the Coppa Italia Final defeat to Juventus. We didn’t deserve to lose the last three or four games in Serie A either, but at the end of the day it remained a great season.

“This time we’ve got the Europa League to contend with too and that means more games in the fixture list. Of course, there are little arguments in every squad, but the important thing is to sort them out as soon as possible,” he added.
