Solanke opens Reds account in Palace victory

‘It will be a different in the Spanish Cup final’ – Valverde after Barca draw 2-2 with Eibar

Dominic Solanke scored his first goal in a Liverpool shirt as the Reds beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the Premier League Asia Trophy on Wednesday.

The England Under-21 international, who has just completed a move from Chelsea, produced a top-class strike in the 61st minute to give his new team the lead at the Hong Kong Stadium.

Divock Origi scored the second 11 minutes from time to cap a satisfying performance for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The victory means Liverpool move on to play the final against Premier League rivals Leicester in Hong Kong on Saturday.

Most of the opportunities in the match fell to the Reds, who could already have been a couple of goals up before half-time.

There were chances for Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Mohamed Salah in the first half, while Philippe Coutinho went very close after the break.

The deadlock was only broken on the hour mark, however, when Solanke collected a clever flick from Origi and fired across the goal and into the net.

And Origi turned from provider to scorer after finishing from close range following a blocked shot from Coutinho.

Palace did not look particularly threatening under new coach Frank de Boer, although Wilfried Zaha did put on an impressive display.
