Utrecht kicked off their 2017/18 Eredivisie campaign with a healthy 3-0 away win over ADO Den Haag on Friday night.
Cyril Dessers opened the scoring on 15 minutes at the Cars Jeans Stadion before Sander van de Streek added a second with 55 minutes played. Dessers then killed off the tie with his second of the night on 81 minutes.
Sheraldo Becker had the first chance of the match on just two minutes, for the hosts, but saw his shot easily saved by David Jensen.
Dessers then saw his 15th minute effort saved before breaking the deadlock with a simple finish from close range.
Gyrano Kerk failed to beat Robert Zwinkels a minute later before Bjorn Johnsen fired well over the target for the home side.
Van de Streek was unlucky in 31 minutes as Kerk saw another good shot kept out by Zwinkels.
Bjorn Johnsen headed wide on 29 minutes before firing against the upright for Den Haag with 36 minutes played.
Kerk was set up by Urby Emanuelson at the start of the second half, but again saw his shot saved, as Ramon Leeuwin headed his chance over the target.
Kerk kept creating chances, but it became increasingly clear that he was not going to find the back of the net in this tie.
Van de Streek had no such troubles though as he headed an Emanuelson delivery into the back of the net, with 55 minutes played.
Danny Bakker was unable to get his side back into the tie on the hour mark while Tom Beugelsdijk hit the bar with a header on 65 minutes.
There continued to be a number of chances for both sides, with Den Haag guilty of wasting all of their opportunities to get back into the game.
And the tie was truly over when Dessers bagged his second on the night, on 81 minutes, with a neat finish after a swift break forward.
