Singapore win, Myanmar crush Brunei

Singapore picked up a much needed 2-0 win over Laos while Myanmar powered six goal past hapless Brunei in Friday’s matches.

Singapore, having lost to Myanmar and Malaysia earlier this week, were in desperate need of a win to keep their campaign alive. And their hopes were lifted early, as they scored in just the third minute.

Hanafi Akbar impressed with a dominant run before a cross found the unmarked Taufik Suparno, who made no mistake from inside the six yard box.

Then in the 12th minute, Singapore found their second. Laos’ Sipasong Bounthavy brought down striker Ikhsan Fandi in the penalty area and Fandi stepped up and converted to make it 2-0.

Singapore parked the bus from then out and Laos failed to penetrate the staunch defence. Singapore now sit in third place in Group A, their chances of making the semi-finals still alive.

Meanwhile, Myanmar surged to the top of the group with a 6-0 hammering of Brunei, their third straight win in Kuala Lumpur.

Striker Aung Thu would net his fourth goal of the competition in the 24th minute while teammate Si Thu Aung doubled the lead just before half time.

After a quiet start to the second half, Aung Kaung Mann scored a brace in 12 minutes. Mg Mg Lwin and Than Paing added the cherries on top of a fine performance from the Southeast asian outfit.
