Inzaghi confirms Saints target set for exit

Southampton target Wesley Hoedt looks set to depart from SS Lazio after his manager Simone Inzaghi confirmed the defender has asked to leave the Italian club.

Hoedt has been linked with a €14 million move to the English Premier League side – who looks set to be the direct replacement for wantaway defender Virgil van Dijk.

At 1.92m tall the 23-year-old will offer manager Mauricio Pellegrino a different option in defence as the side's enforcer within the back-four.

"He wants to play every week and has therefore expressed the wish to leave," Inzaghi told reporters on Saturday in a pre-match press conference.

Since joining the Biancocelesti from AZ Alkmaar in 2015, Hoedt has featured 61 times for the Serie A side – scoring four goals.
