Dembele completes Barcelona switch

Barcelona have completed their signing of Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for an initial fee of £96.8 million.

Dembele has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Catalans, which the club revealed includes a release clause of £369.6m.

The transfer, which could rise to £135.5m, is the second-highest ever paid for a player – behind the £198m Barca received for Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dembele has been brought in to help fill the significant hole left by Neymar, which has also fed the saga linking the Spanish giants with Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho.

After signing the long-term deal with the Blaugrana, the 20-year-old was quoted as saying by the BBC: “I’m very happy to be here.

“It has always been my dream to be at Barcelona and now I’m here I’m very happy to have achieved my dream. It is the best club in the world with the best players in the world.
