Brighton boss Chris Hughton must do without Steve Sidwell for a little while longer after revealing the midfielder has undergone back surgery.
The 34-year-old played a big part in the Seagulls' promotion-winning campaign, making 34 appearances as they finished runners-up to Newcastle in the Championship.
However, a long-standing back problem has prevented Sidwell from featuring in Albion's first-ever foray into the Premier League thus far, missing their opening three games.
But Hughton doesn't expect the Arsenal youth product to be sidelined for much longer following confirmation of his operation.
"It's a minor procedure and it has been successful," Hughton told the club's official website.
"In terms of a recovery period, that will become clearer in due course, but we don't expect Steve to be absent for a prolonged period."
