Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu is relieved that the club have managed to hold on to their best players in the off-season as they aim to build a strong team.
The Saints had to withstand heavy interest in defender Virgil van Dijk, who tried his best to force through a move to Liverpool, while Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares were also linked with moves away.
However, they all stayed at Southampton in the end, with Jay Rodriguez the only notable departure, and Romeu believes it was important to keep the squad together.
“It’s very important to keep the structure of the team we had last season,” said Romeu, as quoted by the Daily Echo.
“We felt good, we felt we could play good football and the longer you play with someone the better you feel playing next to him.
“We know each other more. Now we have a new manager, new things to learn, but the team is more or less the same. I truly believe that will be better for us.”
