Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone struggled to explain his team’s inability to get the better of Qarabag in Tuesday’s Champions League stalemate.
Atleti missed the chance to gain ground in Group C with a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano, where Thomas Partey banged in an equaliser after Michel opened the scoring for the Azerbaijani side.
"Explanations are excuses," Simeone said. "We didn't start badly, we could've done more damage but weren't precise and Qarabag scored.
"We became anxious, nervous. The result isn't what we wanted and we know that right now we're having problems with scoring.
"Maybe in other years we have won games like this. When you score people talk about your strength, your courage. When you don't find that goal, people have a different opinion."
The result, Atleti’s third draw of the group stage, leaves them third in the standings, four points behind Chelsea and five adrift of leaders Roma, and looking unlikely to make it to the knockout round.
