Ajax suffer Sinkgraven injury blow

‘It’s an incredible privilege to wear this armband!’ Juan Mata delighted to captain Manchester United

Ajax Amsterdam have suffered a major blow with the news that left-back Daley Sinkgraven will undergo surgery on his knee which will potential rule him out for the season.

Having already missed 11 games this term due to the injury, the versatile full-back was said to be progressing well for his highly anticipated comeback.

But a recurrence of the injury struck last Tuesday in a club friendly with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Ajax announced that the inner tube of his left knee was damaged and he is set to go under the knife on Wednesday morning in Augsburg.

This proves to be yet another damaging blow to the promising career of the Netherlands youth international that joined De Joden in 2015 for €7million from domestic rivals Heerenveen.

Capable of playing at left-back, left-wing or in a central midfield role, Sinkgraven has chalked up 11 assists in 75 games for the club since his arrival three years ago.
