Striker Rufo Sanchez leaves Global Cebu

Johor Darul Ta’zim vs Shandong Luneng – Reaction & Review

Spanish forward Rufino “Rufo” Sanchez bids farewell to embattled club Global Cebu FC as he goes back to Spain.

In a post via his personal Facebook account, Rufo gave thanks to the club for the opportunity particularly in the AFC Cup where the striker had been most effective in this season’s campaign.

Being one of the brightest spots for Global in the in the regional front, Rufo was able to rack up a total of four goals during the Group stage of the regional tournament.

The first was his late game heroics against Yangon United when he was able to draw a foul and bury the ensuing penalty at the death to give his team hope in the campaign.

His second contribution on the scoresheet for the AFC Cup campaign was an early equaliser during a match that ended in a 3-3 draw at home against FLC Thanh Hoa.

His highlight performance would definitely be the brace he has scored for the Cebu-based club in an away match against Bali United last April 25 as the club signed-off from the tournament on a high with a comfortable 3-1 win.

Rufo Sanchez had previous stints with Stallion FC (now Stallion Laguna), Songkhla United in Thailand and Atletico Sanluqueno in the Spanish Tercera Division before finally arriving for a second tenure with Global.
