100 teams joining Pilipinas Cup in Clark

FOR the third year in a row, the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga will host the Pinas Cup, the biggest football event in the country.

This year’s Pinas Cup 2018 will be held from October 27 to 30 at the Clark Parade Grounds football field with more than 100 competing teams across the country. The event is expected to draw in 7,500 football enthusiasts, including the 2,500 players.

Organized by the Manila Soccer Academy in participation with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), the event gathers football clubs from Metro Manila, Ilocos, Tarlac, Laguna, Cavite, Catanduanes, Bicol, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao and Cagayan de Oro.

Monty Roxas, director of the Manila Soccer Academy, said the Pinas Cup’s mission is “to promote domestic tourism through football.”

“Clark is the perfect venue for us,” said Roxas, citing its location, available hotels, and leisure attractions.

“The infrastructure—airport and highways—as well as the direct flights from the provincial cities make Clark easily accessible to all our participating teams and spectators,” Roxas added.

“The dining variety particularly the Kapampangan and Korean delicacies add to the flavor of the event. There are also numerous activities that guests can enjoy aside from football. Golf, theme parks, shopping, biking, running, and other forms of entertainment always make the entire family experience of Pinas Cup absolutely memorable,” he said.

This year’s Pinas Cup has five 11-a-side categories, one 9-a-side, and one 7-a-side.

At the opening ceremony on October 27, Roxas will be doing the ceremonial kick-off with Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vince Dizon, and Clark Development Corporation (CDC) President and CEO Noel Manankil.
