Ceres Negros routs Stallion Laguna 5-1 in rain-soaked Panaad Stadium

“Japanese Messi” Kubo outshines “Thai Messi” Chanathip as FC Tokyo beat Consadole

A Fernando Rodriguez hat-trick (44′, 57′, 84′) and a Bienvenido Marañon brace (18′, 37′) gives Ceres a convincing win against their visitors who were only able to score a goal through Jess Melliza (27′) as they kept their unblemished home record.

Ceres started off the blocks from the first whistle as they threatened Stallion with dangerous plays into the box.

Stallion started unfazed though as they were able to come up with a chance via Jess Melliza’s attempt that was easily dealt with by Roland Muller.

The Busmen’s steady buildup of pressure was rewarded though come the 18th minute as Marañon registered his name on the score-sheet by connecting with Junior Muñoz’s cross to shoot past Stallion keeper Dely Sadia to make it 1-0 in just the 18th minute.

Stallion Laguna made it a game though soon after as Jess Melliza scored the equalizer in the 26th minute with an opportunistic steal from Muller before dispatching the ball to an empty net.

The parity would be proven to be short-lived as Ceres got the go-ahead goal courtesy of on-fire Marañon who got to Martin Steuble’s cross that initially missed Fernando Rodriguez, to fire home in the 37th minute, making the scoreline 2-1 in favor of the host team.

Bacolod’s star-studded squad won’t be done in the first half yet as Fernando Rodriguez finally added his name on the tally by making it 3-1 just before halftime with an cunning strike.

After the break, it was a slow start before the dam broke in favor of the Busmen as they scored at will. Rodriguez notching his second in the 57th minute with a fortuitous strike that bounced off the post and of Stallion’s keeper before finding the net and making it an insurmountable lead of 4-1.

It was pretty one sided after that as Ceres continued to push with more chances with Rodriguez finally getting his hat-trick in the 84th minute striking at speed from an angle as the ball was heading out of the playing area that somehow managed to spectacularly find the goal.

It then ended 5-1 as Ceres continued their immaculate record at home while Stallion again took a big step backwards in their campaign after a promising performance against Meralco Manila as they have yet to get their first win.

The result puts Ceres Negros in fourth place with 10 points (3 W, 1D, 1L) with three games in hand compared to current league leaders JPV Marikina. Stallion in contrast remains near the bottom of the table with 3 points (3D, 4L).

The two teams will again face each other immediately as their next fixture on July 1, 2017 at the same venue. It could be another daunting task for Stallion Laguna, but the break can give them ample time to adjust and produce a much better outing this time around.
