Global Cebu produced a spirited performance, with Darryl Roberts and Wesley Dos Santos scoring in the second half, as they toiled and chipped away Davao Aguilas’ two-goal advantage to snatch a 2-2 draw on Sunday at the Binan Football Stadium.

The match started in a gritty manner with most of the action happening in the middle of the pitch with both sides trying to settle and get into the flow of the game.

Initially, Global seemed to have shown a little bit of an upper-hand as they were able to get the ball within Davao’s half for a certain spell.

As the first quarter of an hour has elapsed, the game started to open up as both sides were able to improve their passing plays and come up with promising runs.

The first goal came as expected, but it was Davao Aguilas (as if suddenly coming alive) who drew first blood in the 20th minute after a brilliant play from the Younghusbands with James dribbling into the box before setting up Phil with a slide rule pass, who unleashed and guided the ball past Deyto and into the back of the net.

Just a few minutes later Global was forced to change their approach as Jarvis was pulled out of action in place of Chima Uzoka in just the 28th minute.

A few chances came for both sides with Davao threatening a bit more.

The Aguilas’ efforts were rewarded in the 43rd minute with Harrison Sawyer scoring from a header off Phil Younghusband’s corner kick as the visitors enjoyed a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Global Cebu were given a golden opportunity to equalise in the 53rd minute after being awarded a penalty kick with Grommen found guilty of an infraction inside the box.

Darryl Roberts took the spot kick, but he was well denied by Nick O’Donnell who confidently gathered the ball into his hands.

Davao had some chances come their way but they weren’t able to capitalise and convert while Global also came close on a couple of occasions but the attempt went agonisingly wide of the goal.

A lifeline came for Cebu though in the 67th minute as Darryl Roberts powered through the defence and catching O’Donnell wrong footed to slot home and reduce the deficit to one.

The goal seemed to have turned the tide of the momentum as Global toiled in search of a leveller while Davao still had some half chances that came to naught.

The opportunity to draw finally came Global’s way in the 87th minute after Dennis Villanueva was handed a straight red for a foul inside the box.

This time Wesley Dos Santos was the one who took the post-kick, making no mistake to give his team a dramatic equaliser, denying Davao a win after a bright first half.

Global Cebu will next host Ceres Negros on 18 April at 7:00PM while Davao will go against JPV Marikina at home on 21 April also at 7:00PM.
