Philippines Football League Team of the Week 5

Philippines Football League

Another match-week has has concluded  in the Philippines Football League last weekend with Kaya Iloilo and Davao Aguilas getting significant wins.

Here are the standout players in the league for the past two matches:

Goalkeeper: Ace Villanueva (Kaya FC)

Ace came up with a massive performance during Kaya’s match against Ceres, keeping a clean-sheet on the way to a significant win against the league leaders in Pana-ad.

His biggest highlight was denying Beinvenido Maranon’s penalty kick that could have changed the course of the game.

Defenders: Jan Soriano, Alfred Osei, Jal Soriano (Kaya FC)

An all-Kaya defense made the lineup given the way they were able to hold the fort in spite of going a man down early in the second half when Tacusalme got his second yellow card.

The two Soriano’s had been in-sync in covering each other in the final third, while Osei had been active too on the offensive end aside from his main defensive duties, even scoring a goal off Miguel Tanton’s feed.

Midfielders: Kim Sungmin (Davao Aguilas), Miguel Tanton (Kaya FC), Ryuki Kozawa (JPV Marikina), Kennedy Uzoka (JPV Marikina)

Kim Sungmin’s offensive contribution has been notable against JPV. His deceiving header caught the opposition’s defence off-guard that  found the back of the net and broke the deadlock.

The Korean was also instrumental in assisting Phil Younghusband’s strike early in the second half.

As for JPV’s Kozawa, he has been one of the few bright spots for Marikina in a losing effort against Davao by successfully picking out Kennedy Uzoka for a goal, then scoring himself from the penalty spot to help his team get a respectable two-goal haul.

Substitute Kennedy Uzoka also has been a lifeline for JPV Marikina early in the second half when he was able to control Kozawa’s clever pass and coolly convert his strike to keep his side well into the game against Davao at one point in the match.

Kaya’s Miguel Tanton meanwhile had been one of the main factors in the Ilonggo club’s win against Ceres as he had a hand on both goals. The first goal was initiated via his free-kick while he had a direct assist on the second by giving a great pass to defender Alfred Osei who then made sure with his attempt to make it 2-0.

Forwards: Robert Lopez Mendy (Kaya FC), Phil Younghusband (Davao Aguilas), Jordan Mintah (Kaya FC)

What a way for Lopez Mendy to get his first goal of the season by scoring in a crucial match against Ceres.

Aside from the goal he has been a constant threat for Iloilo especially in the first half.

Jordan Mintah might not have been able to notch a goal for Kaya, but his assist for Lopez Mendy’s strike speaks volumes of what he could contribute on the offensive end. He’s also a constant danger-man against Ceres for most of the game.

Lastly, Phil Younghusband was able to produce an all-around performance on the offensive end for Davao Aguilas. His corner kick led to Kim Sunming’s 30th minute goal. Also Phil was able to score two goals, the second of which was a well executed curler off a turn that evaded his marker.

So here are the top performers in the Philippines Football League for the week.
