Philippines Football League Team of the Week 6

PFL Team of the Week

Another PFL match-week has come to a close with Stallion Laguna and Kaya Iloilo notching victories as FOX Sports PH brings this edition of Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper: Hayeson Pepito (Stallion Laguna)

Pepito once again produced a standout performance to keep most of JPV Marikina’s threats at bay and help his team get the 4-1 win.

Defender: Reynald Villareal (Stallion Laguna)

Villareal was once again a crucial element in Stallion’s defence especially in tracking JPV Marikina’s attackers. His big play during the match was his 88th minute last ditch tackle to deny Ashley Flores in unleashing a strike from a promising position.

Defender: Masanari Omura (Kaya Iloilo)

Omura had been a major factor not only on the defensive end but also upfront on a few occasions particularly on set pieces. His high point cam in the 14th minute when he was able to produce a threatening cross that failed to be converted by Kaya’s forwards.

Defender: Ko Kyungjoon (Stallion Laguna)

Joon’s 55th minute goal was a bonus on top of his reliable defensive duties against JPV. It was also about time for him to erase the own-goal he scored against the same opponents last March 11.

Midfielder/Winger: Nathan Alquiros (Stallion Laguna)

Alquiros was able to operate effectively from the right flank and create chances for his club against JPV. His highlight of the match was providing the assist to Joon off a corner kick.

Midfielder: Takashi Odawara (Davao Aguilas)

The midfielder and former JPV stalwart came in as a 65th minute substitute for Davao Aguilas in a losing effort. Five minutes later, he was able to score a goal with a well-taken volley to put his team within striking distance against Kaya. Coach Maro could look into the possibility of starting the midfielder in the next games, maybe in a more attacking role to support the Younghusbands.

Midfielder: Miguel Tanton (Kaya Iloilo)

Kaya’s midfield maestro was at it again, pulling the strings for his club with his plays especially in set pieces where he was able to pick out Mendy twice to directly assist on two of Kaya’s four goals against Davao Aguilas.

Midfielder/Winger: Keigo Moriyasu

Another entry in the team of the week from a losing team, Moriyasu has been a bright sport for JPV when he scored the equaliser against Stallion. However, his effort was not enough as his side eventually went down against a better opponent.

Support Striker: Jesus Melliza (Stallion Laguna)

One of Stallion’s key players up front, Melliza once again produced a special piece of skill in scoring a rocket from outside the box. He was also lively during the rest of the match providing JPV several scares with his well timed run to the final third either with or off the ball.

Attacking Midfielder/Support Striker: Abou Mohamed Sy

One of Stallion Laguna’s players with a notable work-rate during the match, the towering midfielder was always on the run, but with a purpose. Either chasing the ball, working the ball for his teammates or creating chances Abou Sy was there toiling for his team. His efforts were rewarded with a late goal after stealing the ball and wrong-footing the opponent to slot it home to give Stallion a comfortable and flattering 4-1 win.

Centre-Forward/Striker: Robert Lopez Mendy (Kaya Iloilo)

After breaking his goalscoring duck the previous match, the floodgates have opened this time around for the Senegalese forward scoring a hat-trick of goals against Davao Aguilas. His goalscoring touch came at an opportune time as top-scorer Jordan Mintah was substituted off due to injury. A cunning strike followed by two headers, Robert’s strengths as a scorer had been on full display and will be a big boost for Kaya for the rest of the campaign.
