Full gallop: Stallion Laguna score four past JPV Marikina

Room for Improvement: Former Champions Kashima & Guangzhou must step up

Stallion Laguna unleashed a barrage of goals in the second half to come out as 4-1 victors over JPV Marikina in Binan in the Philippines Football League.

The match began with promise pace as both clubs had chances early on.

Within the first two minutes Stallion hit the side-netting while JPV almost was gifted a goal when a backpass by Stallion’s defender beat its won keeper and almost went into the goalmouth.

In the 7th minute JPV had a well taken freekick by Moriyasu but the ball went straight to Stallion keeper Hayeson Pepito.

A minute later Carlo Polli produced a low attempt but Tripulca was able to gather.

The quarter of an hour passed with several promising chances at goal coming their way but both sides’ defences were in good form to thwart the attempts.

In the 18th minute Carlo Polli had a well taken attempt that had enough power, but the JPV stopper did better to collect.

At the half hour mark JPV’s David Mark Basa was able to connect to a corner kick with a low header but his attempt bounced off the turf first before sailing over the bar.

As the clock neared halftime, both teams had their own moments to break the ice but both keepers, Tripulca and Pepito pulled off inspired stops to maintain the parity.

Finally JPV Marikina had a golden chance as Ryuki Kozawa was able to break free but his attempt fizzled wide of the far post as the first half came to an end.

After the restart, both teams continued where they left off creating two chances early in the second half with Stallion’s Jesus Melliza trying his luck from range that went over the bar while JPV’s John Celiz with a decent attempt inside the box that was denied by Pepito.

In the 57th minute the breakthrough goal arrived when Stallion was awarded a free kick from a promising area. Tripulca can only manage to parry Melliza’s attempt as Stallion defender Ko Kyung-joon headed home the rebound.

Five minutes later, the Binan outfit went two-goals up after Abou Mohamed Sy made sure to convert Matthew Nierras’ well executed pass.

JPV showed a bit of fight in the 79th minute as Kozawa was able to convert a strike off Alvin Sarmiento aerial pass.

However, it would prove to be Coach Ernest Nierras’ team’s day as two more goals from Fitch Arboleda in the 81st minute off a feed from Yannick Tuason and Nathan Alquiros of an Abou Sy assist in the 87th minute ensured the 4-1 win for Binan Stadium’s main tenants.

The win puts Stallion at fourth in the standings with 12 points overtaking their rivals for the day, JPV which remains at 9 points.

Stallion Laguuna will next host Global Cebu on June 10 while JPV Marikina clash with Davao Aguilas on June 9.
