Davao Aguilas proved superior against JPV Marikina in a match that lasted under an hour

Davao Aguilas vs JPV Marikina Philippines Football League

After scoring off a penalty in the first half, Davao Aguilas came off the blocks scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second half as the game was abandoned in the 53rd minute due to torrential rains in Binan.

The match began in slippery conditions as the turf in Binan exhibited the effects of torrential rain it experienced earlier in the day.

Davao Aguilas showed promise in the early proceedings with their attacking verve.

In the sixth minute Aguilas’ Kim Sung-min received a well taken cross but his header failed to connect with the ball.

Six minutes after Kim once again was involved in the offence with a shot but JPV Marikina goal-keeper Nelson Gasic was there to collect.

A few moments passed as it was Takashi Odawara’s turn to provide the threat for the visitors as he shoots with a very potent attempt only to see the ball climb marginally over the bar.

At the half hour mark, JPV Marikina finally had their turn to pose a problem to Davao Aguilas with a good ball inside the box but the Aguilas’ defence did well to snuff the threat.

But the deadlock was broken come the 32nd minute. Davao were awarded a penalty when Phil Younghusband’s ball into JPV’s box was handled by JPV defender Suzuki Tsubasa. Phil took the spot kick putting enough power to beat Gasic even if the stopper went the right way.

In the 35th minute JPV had a chance after being awarded a freekick in a very promising area but midfield wonder Keigo Moriyasu’s attempt was blocked by the wall.

Davao immediately forced a counter-attack only for Gasic to come up with another crucial save.

James Younghusband came close to doubling Davao’s lead in the 38th minute but his attempt inside JPV’s box sailed agonisingly over the bar as both teams go into the break with Aguilas enjoying a slim lead.

After the restart Coach Melchor Anzures’ wards came out with fire as James Younghusband scored in the 47th minute off a feed from Phil Younhghusband.

Two minutes after, just as the heavens have opened with torrential rains, Davao Aguilas also opened the floodgates as Phil Younghusband’s free-kick found James Younghusband who headed into the path of an on-rushing Dennis Villanueva who buried the ball into the back of the net.

The heavy rains soon made the pitch waterlogged to the point that the ball wasn’t able to roll properly on the turf anymore as the officials put a halt on the proceedings.

After further assessment on the weather conditions, the match officials decided to abandon the game and award the win to Davao based on the 3-0 scoreline.

The win strengthened Davao’s hold of the third place in the league as they reduced the lead of second placed Kaya to six points.

Davao Aguilas will next play on June 17 as they host Stallion Laguna. Meanwhile JPV hosts Kaya Iloilo on June 16.
