Five-star Davao Aguilas rout Stallion Laguna in return to winning ways

Arnautovic scores in China debut as Shanghai SIPG draw at Chongqing

After several heartbreaking losses, Davao Aguilas finally get a much deserved dominant result  in the PFL against an uncharacteristically hapless Stallion Laguna last Saturday in Rizal Football Stadium.

The match began with Stallion immediately showing promise as Jesus Melliza and Abou Sy combined towards a promising play but it fizzled out when Sy failed to gain better control of the ball as Davao gained back the ball.

In the third minute though, Davao suddenly found themselves at the front as Kim Sungmin notched his third goal of the campaign off a cross from Tyler Matas in a play which Dylan De Bruycker initiated.

Very soon after Coach Melchor Anzures’ squad suddenly found themselves with a two goal cushion within the seventh minute of the first half after Simone Rota was able to convert via a header off a corner kick.

Eight minutes followed and Davao once again showed its firepower as Kim gets his second for the match.

It has been all Davao Aguilas at this point as the squad enjoyed more possession and half-chances.

Stallion Head Coach Ernest Nierras tried to shake things up with an early substitution, introducing one of his main threats Fitch Arboleda for Jason Cordova in the 31st minute.

The change seemed to have eventually resulted to promising plays from the Binan-based club with Alquiros and Melliza finding themselves in good positions to unleash a shot, but Davao’s defence held firm half as halftime arrived with the squad from Mindanao enjoying a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the second half, whatever slight momentum Stallion were able to come up with before the break suddenly disappeared as Davao Aguilas once again seized control of the game.

The sense of footing Davao were able to gain early in the second half eventually led to the fourth goal courtesy of Dylan De Bruycker as Stallion found themselves in a very big hole.

Stallion eventually tried and even got close on a few occasions to pull a goal back, with Melliza, Arboleda, and Polli having potent shots on goal but Ronilo Bayan Jr. pulled off an inspired performance that eventually earned him and his side a clean sheet.

However, Davao were not yet done as Jason De Jong finally notched his first goal for the season and his team’s fifth for the game in the 85th minute that served as the nail in the coffin for Stallion’s sorry afternoon.

The match was a crucial one for both teams, and the 5-0 result meant Davao Aguilas maintain their hold of the third spot opening up a five point gap over fourth placed Stallion.
