Stallion Laguna deny Davao Aguilas with draw, unbeaten run at home now at five

Airmarine Cup 2019: Faris Ramli goal

Fitch Arboleda’s injury time equaliser cancelled out Wesley Rodrigues Dos Santos’ 38th minute goal as Stallion Laguna’s unbeaten run at their home stadium in Binan is now extended to five games here in the Philippines Football League.

The hosts wasted no time from kick-off as they immediately stamped their authority in the early proceedings by showing more attacking intent while Davao Aguilas were mostly on their guard, despite also enjoying a few possession spells.

However, there were no goals up until well beyond the quarter of an hour even though chances came for both squads.

Early in the first half the hosts were prompted to do a substitution replacing Abou Mouhamed Sy with Jesus Melliza in the 26th minute.

Right at the half hour mark, Stallion had a good look at goal with Yannick Tuason unleashing a shot but Davao Aguilas’ Patrick Deyto did well to save the attempt.

Come the 34th minute Stallion once again had another chance that came begging as Fitch Arboleda was able to pull off a stellar run down the left flank but his feed was squandered by Melliza who skied his shot inside the box.

The attempt eventually proved rueful as Davao Aguilas were able to get the breakthrough lead in the 38th minute off a set-piece corner, with Wesley Dos Santos opening his scoring account for his new club.

Dos Santos’ icebreaker proved to be telling in terms of momentum swing as Davao Aguilas seemed to have been more enterprising with the aim of exploiting the occasion and increasing their advantage.

Despite the close effort of Kim, the visitors’ slim lead stood until the halftime break.

Come the second half, Davao came off the dressing room with a much improved showing in the early minutes.

Stallion might have saw the threat of Davao increasing, prompting Coach Ernest Nierras to replace Yannick Tuason with new signing Paolo Bugas in the 53rd minute to freshen the pace of the frontline.

Four minutes later, Stallion saw a chance to equalise via another promising breakaway but Nathan Alquiros’ shot at the edge of the area missed Davao’s goalmouth altogether.

Ten minutes into the hour mark, Davao Aguilas seemed to have seized the proceedings at it was mostly them who create promising chances whether via set pieces or open play.

However, despite the shift in the proceedings and dominance, Stallion were still able to keep themselves in the game with defensive stops. But the way Coach Melchor Anzures’ men were able to keep the ascendancy with their enterprising plays seemed an ominous warning already for the home team.

Davao Aguilas may have put the score beyond doubt as Kim produced a potent header in the 84th minute but Jhun Tripulca made a stellar save to give his squad a lifeline late in the match.

That save would be massive in the end as Fitch Arboleda produced a stunning equaliser at the death off an aerial ball from Carlo Polli to level things off in injury time and deny Davao Aguilas win in their recently enchanted stronghold.

The draw means that Stallion Laguna are now in a five-game unbeaten run in their home turf with their latest loss dating back May 30, 2018 in a 6-2 loss against Ceres-Negros.

Also the race for third place is still neck and neck as Davao’s lead over Stallion is still precariously at one point.
