Davao Aguilas and Kaya Iloilo seize home game advantage in Copa semis

Goalkeeper mistake in first minute helps Al Arabi beat Al Shahania

Phil Younghusband and Kim Sungmin both got a brace as Davao Aguilas notched a comprehensive 4-0 win against Stallion Laguna in Binan while Robert Lopez Mendy’s fifth minute strike proved enough as Kaya Iloilo prevail over JPV Marikina in the Copa Paulino Alcantara.

Hosts Stallion Laguna came out with more chances in the second half as they were able to get good looks with their attempts, with Fitch Arboleda and team captain Ruben Doctora coming close, but they weren’t able to convert.

The missed chances proved to be something that they will rue in the end as Davao Aguilas Bellmare captain Phil Younghusband was able to bury his chance and break the deadlock off a feed from his brother James as Aguilas get the advantage heading into the second half.

After the restart, Davao Aguilas would prove to be the better side heading into the business end of the match as Phil Younghusband scored his second goal in the 83rd minute sandwiched by Korean Kim Sungmin’s own brace in the 71st and 85th minutes of the match.

Nathan Alquiros could, have scored a consolation for the home side, but it wasn’t meant to be as his shot sailed over the bar.

Over in Carmona, Robert Lopez Mendy’s goal in the first five minutes of the game proved to be the only difference in an evenly contested match between Kaya Iloilo and JPV Marikina that saw chances come at a premium.

The clash also proved to be a physical one that saw a player on either side sent off due to two yellow cards.

Keigo Moriyasu could have tied for JPV late in the game but his 88th minute freekick was denied by the cross bar.

Both Davao Aguilas and Kaya Iloilo seize home game advantage heading into the knockout semifinals of the Copa Paulino Alcantara on the third week of October.
