KUALA LUMPUR—Athletics finally delivered two gold medals as Aris Toledo and Anthony Beram won in their respective events to give Team Philippines the much needed boost in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday night at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Toledo snared the gold in decathlon after amassing 6849 points, beating Thailand bet Suttisak Singkon (6678) and Bui Van Su (6207) of Vietnam, who settled for the silver and bronze, respectively.
On the other hand, Beram clocked 20.84 seconds to reign supreme in the 200-meter run, beating Thai runner Jirapong Meenapara (21.22) and Thevarr Gunasegaran of Malaysia, who settled for the bronze with his time of 21.26 seconds.
Meantime, the Philippines added two more silver medals late Wednesday, courtesy of Marco Vilog in the men’s 800-meter run as well as Mark Harry Diones in the men’s triple jump.
As of 10 p.m., the Philippines already has 10 gold medals.
