As rumours of a transfer away from Paris Saint-Germain continue to swirl, Neymar Jr. has played down the role played by his father in his career decisions.
The 26-year-old’s father, Neymar Sr., serves as his advisor. The Brazil star has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with his father reportedly involved in plotting his PSG exit.
The forward is full of praise for his father, but insists his future is in his own hands. “My father doesn’t take decisions for my career. I’m the one who decides about that,” he told Brazilian magazine VIP.
“He’s the best advisor I could ask for but, in the end, it’s my call.
“My father takes care of other matters that run parallel to football, so that I can focus only on my profession.”
Neymar’s first season in France was hampered by a long-term foot injury, but he is now looking to fire the Selecao to World Cup glory in Russia.
Brazil will begin their campaign against Switzerland on 17 June before clashes with Costa Rica and Serbia in their other group stage games.
