Word around the rumour mill is that Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi.
DailyMail reports that United will join a transfer race that also features arch-rivals Liverpool, and Bundesliga teams Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund who are also interested in securing the signature of the highly-rated teenager. Bayern Munich even made a reported bid of £35million to the London club in January.
Chelsea meanwhile, are yet to hold contract extension talks with the 18-year old, whose time at London ends in 2020 as per his current contract. Bayern Munich is hence speculated to return in June with a £30million bid, the diminishing price a sign of the decline in the player’s value as his contract approaches its end, says DailyMail.
The Blues in turn, may think twice of selling the youngster due to the transfer embargo that has been issued on them by the UEFA, which prevents the addition of new players into their squad even if the current players leave.
Hudson-Odoi’s most favoured position is the left wing, and as Real Madrid continues to woo Eden Hazard, Chelsea might want the youngster to stay back at the club at least until they are able to find a solid replacement for him.
Manchester United meanwhile, hope to bolster their attacking unit thanks to an inconsistent Romelu Lukaku and an underfiring Alexis Sanchez among others, and the Chelsea youngster is hence a target for the Red Devils.
Hudson-Odoi recently debuted for England during their 5-0 win against Czech Republic, becoming the youngest ever English debutant in International football in the process.
Aged 18 years and 135 days, he broke Duncan Edwards’ 63-year old record. Edwards was 18 days and 183 days old when he made his first England appearance in a competitive game in 1955.
